Lyons Upper Elementary News
Dear Lyons Upper Elementary Families,
We hope this message finds you well! We wanted to take a moment to share some important announcements and celebrations at our school.
PBIS Bingo and Brownies: We will be hosting a PBIS Bingo and Brownies February 9th. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to have fun and showcase their positive behavior. They will have the chance to earn prizes and enjoy delicious brownies. We encourage all students to continue demonstrating exemplary behavior and earn their spot at this exciting event!
We would like to inform you that the number one behavior offense at Lyons Upper Elementary is not following directions. We have observed 81 instances of this behavior so far this year- which is not a lot with a school of almost 500 students. But wouldn't it be wonderful if that number was ZERO? It is crucial that our students understand the importance of following directions in all areas of the school, including the classroom, hallway, recess, lunch, bus, and restroom. By doing so, they will be able to participate in all the exciting PBIS Celebrations and field trips. Let's encourage our students to be attentive and respectful listeners!
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the ongoing partnership between our school and your families. Your support plays a vital role in promoting a positive and nurturing learning environment for our students. We are continuously amazed by the dedication and involvement of our Lyons Upper Elementary families. Thank you for everything you do!
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value your input and are here to support you and your child's education.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Rhonda Stone
Principal

LUES 7 Mindsets LIVE TO GIVE: STRETCH YOURSELF
At this age, students can be self-centered and more concerned with their own and needs and not those of others. The Live to Give Mindset reminds us that to get love and respect from others, we must give love and respect.

LUES Spotlight: Ms. Wiggins's 3rd grade science class intensely watches as Georgia's groundhog, General Beauregard Lee, makes his weather prediction. They were very excited that he did not see his shadow and Spring is on the way!

Dear Principals, Teachers, Media Specialists, and Parents:
The Ohoopee Regional Library System is once again sponsoring the “Yumion” Writing Contest for grades K-8 in conjunction with the 2024 Vidalia Onion Festival. The purpose of the contest is to bring children and books together. We hope that the enjoyment and recognition they receive from participating in this writing project will further encourage them to read and write.
Last year we received 350 entries due to the support of area schools. We would like to thank you for your dedication and ask you to please encourage your students to prepare and submit an entry this year.
The details of the contest are as follows:
- Entries are divided into the following categories
Grades K-2 (Draw us a picture! Tell us your “Yumion” story through a drawing.)
Grades 3-4 (200-350 words)
Grades 5-6 (350-500 words)
Grades 7-8 (450-650 words)
Each entry must feature Vidalia, “Yumion”, and/or the Sweet Onion. Entries can include poems as well as stories. It does not have to be the story of how the sweet onion was discovered. Have fun and be creative!
Grade 2 has the option of drawing a picture (or) writing a story (suggested length of entry, 50-150 words)
Each entry must be accompanied by a separate sheet of paper stating the author’s name, address, age, grade, school, and telephone number. No name should appear on the entry itself and the entries should not be placed in binders or folders.
Entries do not need to be typed, but must be clearly legible. They must be turned in by closing time April 8, 2024 at any Ohoopee Regional Library System branch.
Each category will be awarded a first, second, and third place prize as well as an honorable mention (Sixteen prizes total). The first-place prize in each category is $25, second is $20, third is $15, and honorable mention is $10.
Winners will have their name published in the Vidalia Advance Newspaper. If you or your students have any questions, please feel free to contact me at wrights@ohoopeelibrary.org
Sincerely,
Stacey Wright
Toombs County Librarian

LUES 7 MINDSETS 100% ACCOUNTABLE: GROW THROUGH LIFE
At this age, students are becoming better risk takers and are trying new things but can become overly anxious or worried about outcomes. When we are 100% Accountable and grow through life, we learn that life is a process of continuous growth in which failure and mistakes are a part of the journey.
