After thorough consideration and conversation with the Emergency Management Agency, the Toombs County Sheriff's Dept. and other county officials, we will start school on Friday, August 9, 2024 for the safety of all concerned.
The system-wide Open House is now scheduled for Thursday afternoon August 8th from 2pm- 6pm.
The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community are our top priority. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we navigate these unforeseen circumstances.
Imago Dei Missions provides cost-free clothing and essentials to foster, adoptive, kinship, and guardianship families. Families are asked to bring a copy of their appropriate paperwork to verify eligibility on their 1st visit. August days/hours are listed on the attached flyer.

Dear Parents:
I would like to welcome you and your child to Lyons Upper Elementary School. I am looking forward to a productive year. Your child’s education is very important to everyone at LUES.
Breakfast is served daily at 7:30 in the cafeteria. Car riders who plan to eat breakfast must arrive at the front entrance between 7:20 and 7:45. Car riders arriving on campus before 7:20 must remain in the car with their parents until a teacher is on duty to allow them to enter the school. We will not have a teacher on duty before 7:20 to supervise your child. Please follow this rule for your child’s safety.
The instructional day at LUES begins at 7:45 for homeroom and 8:00 for first period. Students arriving after 7:45 a.m. must report to the office to receive a tardy pass before going to homeroom. Please have your child at school before 7:45 each morning. Students will be tardy after 7.45 a.m. If your child is tardy, they will have to make up any missed work during recess, lunch, or connections.
The LUES Student Handbook is available for viewing online through the Toombs County Board of Education Lyons Upper Elementary School Link. Thank you for reviewing it with your child. Please complete the required forms that were sent home with your child and return them to your child’s homeroom teacher by Monday, August 12 , 2024.
I would like to encourage you to be involved in your child’s education. Please attend our P.T.O. meetings, Open House, Fun Day, Honors Day, and other activities offered during the school year. In addition to these activities you can sign up for the Parent Portal and monitor your child’s success throughout the entire school year. Please call me if you have questions or concerns or would like to meet with me or your child’s teacher. We appreciate your cooperation and assistance. Toombs County Schools will close at noon on July 3. The offices will be closed July 4-5. Our offices will resume normal business hours on July 8.
