Students in Mrs. Dowell, Ms. Akins, and Mrs. Turoski’s class used new knowledge of the formula Pi by completing fun activities like making their own pizzas, reading Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi, making Pi Day Amaographs, and finishing the day figuring out the circumference of a chocolate chip cookie!

The students worked in small groups to escape the Rock Cycle!

Today is March 14th, also known as Pi Day, a day dedicated to the math constant pi (π) which is approximately 3.14.

Eighth grade students have been learning about wavelengths of visible light.

TCMS 7th grade students recently journeyed to the Jacksonville Zoo for a field trip. Students explored the various ecosystems with exotic animals and plants from around the world. Thank you to all who made this possible.

The TCMS Beta Club put together personal care kits to be delivered to the Georgia Power Lineman that were housed at TCMS during the outages caused from Hurricane Helene. For several nights our gym was their homebase and we are thankful for all of their hard work in our community. #SetTheStandard #LeadbyServingOthers

This morning Mrs. Pierce led some of our 6th grade students in Break Break exercises before they began an important task. The science referencing brain breaks suggests that these exercises improve focus, reduce stress, and enhance overall cognitive function. Though not scientific the smiles and laughs had to have a positive impact as well! #setthestandard

This week, we celebrate Exceptional Children’s Week! We celebrate the unique strengths, talents, and achievements of our exceptional students. #ExcellenceFor ALL

Toombs Family Connection partnered with Toombs County Schools to implement a new pilot program called MENTOR Toombs. This program goes along with the Get TOOMBS Reading initiative that our community has been working toward for the last few years. Last month Paige Williamson, Toombs Family Connection Director, and Rhonda Benton, Toombs County Schools’ Family Engagement Coordinator, met with Leslie Hale from MENTOR Georgia to learn best practices and prepare to train other volunteers themselves. Tuesday, February 18, a group of eleven volunteers from our community met for the first official MENTOR Toombs training. During that time, participants practiced leading activities, learned WHY a program like this is important now, and took turns reading to one another to listen for sight words and better understand the mentor role. This program is focused on literacy and it’s specific to first grade students at Lyons Primary School at this time. We hope to expand to other schools and grades next year.
The requirements to participate in this program are as follows:
Application
Background Check
4 Hour Training
Weekly Commitment of one-two hours per week
If you or someone you know would be interested in joining this program for the next school year, please contact Paige Williamson at familyconnection9@gmail.com or Rhonda Benton, rhonda.benton@toombs.k12.ga.us.

The Toombs County Special Olympics, along with the East Gordon Church Ladies and the Greater Vidalia Chamber of Commerce, sponsored the Glow Crazy Prom on March 1st.
