GIFTED SERVICES

Lyons Upper Elementary is committed to the belief that each student has a right to receive an education based on individual needs. To meet the needs of gifted learners, our gifted teacher modifies the content, teaching strategies and expectations of student mastery in order to further develop students’ strengths and provide them with opportunities to reach their fullest potential.

The Gifted Education program at LUES is called ACE (Academic & Creative Excellence).  Gifted students will be served in Science and Social Studies following the Georgia Standards of Excellence with enrichment activities integrated into the curriculum.

ACE-ADVANCED CLASSES

(gifted and regular education students)

Mrs. Murphy’s students will be required to participate in several outside projects throughout the year.  The following projects are some of the requirements:

• Memorizing the Preamble of the Constitution (grades 3-5)

• Memorizing and singing the National Anthem (grade 4)

• Learning the Bill of Rights and other amendments of the Constitution (grade 4 and 5)

• Participating in the Wax Museum (grades 3-5)

ACE-ADVANCED FIELD TRIPS

Each year the ACE-Advanced class usually has a field trip.  Most of our field trips are done through Kelly Tours in Savannah.  Students are not required to participate and parents will be required to pay for their child’s trip.  Mrs. Murphy will do fundraisers to help with the cost of the field trips.  Students will also be given opportunities to help raise money through one or more fundraisers.  Every three years we try to give students the opportunity to go tour Washington, DC.
